Information frictions in inflation expectations among five types of economic agents

چکیده
We compare disagreement in expectations and the frequency of forecast revisions among five categories agents: households, firms, professional forecasters, policymakers participants to laboratory experiments. provide evidence all agents. There is however a strong heterogeneity across categories: while forecasters exhibit low disagreement, firms households show disagreement. This translates into heterogeneous revision agents, with revising more frequently their forecasts than forecasters. Households last revise less frequently. are also able explore external validity experimental expectations.

Economic Literacy and Inflation Expectations: Evidence from a Laboratory Experiment
We present new experimental evidence on heterogeneity in the formation of inflation expectations and relate the variation to economic literacy and demographics. The experimental design allows us to investigate two channels through which expectations-formation may vary across individuals: (1) the choice of information and (2) the use of given information. Subjects who are more economically liter...
متن کاملAnchoring Expectations of Inflation
This paper studies existence and uniqueness of equilibrium in a monetary model in which fiscal policy is Ricardian. The innovation of the paper is to model agents’ expectations as endogenous probabilities which are determined in equilibrium. Since economies with a Ricardian fiscal policy typically exhibit indeterminacy of equilibrium when the monetary policy instrument is the short-term interes...
متن کاملLabor-Market Frictions and Optimal Inflation∗
In main theories of monetary non-neutrality the Ramsey optimal inflation rate varies between the negative of the real interest rate and zero. This paper explores how the interaction of nominal wageand search and matching frictions affect the planners choice. We show that adding the combination of such frictions to the canonical monetary model can generate an optimal inflation that is significan...
متن کاملLabour Market Frictions and Heterogeneous Expectations
The aim of this paper is to investigate the effects of bounded rationality on labour market dynamics. The model is based on a standard New Keynesian model that incorporates labour market search and matching frictions developed by Trigari (2006). During the bargaining process, wages and working hours are jointly determined by firms and workers. Expectations heterogeneity is introduced by assumin...
متن کاملImperfect Information and Inflation Expectations: Evidence from Microdata
We investigate the updating behavior of individual consumers regarding their shortand long-run inflation expectations. Utilizing the University of Michigan Survey of Consumer’s rotating panel microstructure, we can identify whether individuals adjust their inflation expectations over a period of six months. We find evidence that the updating frequency has been underestimated. Furthermore, looki...
